Empowering Educators, Strengthening Institutions: Building a School Culture from the Ground Up

Before the first student walks into a new school, the people who will teach, guide and support them have to be ready.

From July 29 -August 1 2025, as Regina Nostra Schools prepared to welcome its first students, CedarRise Initiative for Human Development was invited to help build that foundation. What followed was a four-day staff onboarding programme designed not simply to introduce new employees to their roles, but to establish a shared culture of purpose, excellence, growth and integrity.

The programme brought together 19 staff members, including teachers, administrators and support personnel. Through interactive sessions, the team explored the school's vision and values alongside practical areas such as child-centred learning, safeguarding, Catholic ethos and technology integration.

The focus was on turning these principles into everyday practice.

For educators, this meant thinking about how children experience learning—not simply what is taught. Discussions around blended learning and technology encouraged staff to consider how digital tools could make lessons more engaging while keeping the needs of the child at the centre.

As one participant reflected:

“Learning becomes easy when it is child-centered and made fun using technology.”

The training also encouraged staff to see their roles beyond individual job descriptions. Teachers, administrators and support personnel each contribute to the environment a child experiences at school. One staff member captured this shift in perspective:

“This training made me see my work differently—with more purpose and professionalism.”

That change in perspective was reflected in the programme's results. Staff participation reached 100%, while the training received an average satisfaction rating of 4.9 out of 5 and a 5 out of 5 rating for relevance. Participants reported greater confidence, stronger teamwork and increased readiness to apply blended learning approaches.

More importantly, the learning extended beyond the training room. Following the programme, school management adopted new approaches to staff appraisal, communication and continuous learning, showing that the onboarding was influencing institutional practice rather than ending with the final session.

The programme also established areas for continued development, including follow-up support in ICT integration, phonics and curriculum development.

For CedarRise, this experience reinforced an important principle: a strong learning environment begins with the people who create it.

Preparing educators is therefore not simply about giving them tools for their jobs. It is about helping them understand the culture they are building, the responsibility they carry and the kind of experience they want every child to have.

At Regina Nostra Schools, that work began before the first classroom opened—and with it, the foundation for a school culture designed to keep learning, growing and improving.
